George R.R. Martin is lying about working on The Winds of Winter again. Guys He's already said he's a "perfectionist". I'm guessing he means in the real, debilitating sense, not the interview sense. Here's how I imagine it is going: He finished the first draft. He redid major major chunks, which is fairly normal.

Martin, Rothfuss, and Scott Lynch (the Gentleman Bastards books) are the trilogy of authors with long-delayed fantasy sequels. Actually, I was getting bored by the last book or two in Martin's series, and don't even worry about whether Winds of Winter will ever come out.

I found the universe he created (it's called Thousand Worlds, according to Wikipedia) was quite interesting, but the story itself and the main character were just ok. The intriguing universe was what kept me going and now I'm George RR Martin sucks. I remember the first season of Game of Thrones. It was terrific. After I saw it, I read all the books. I loved the books. The story is so intricate and has so many interesting characters that I always wanted to read the next page. The show started to gain popularity and GRRM became a celebrity.

George R.R. Martin sucks. He’s created a very interesting series that has captured peoples attention and imaginations and is completely shitting on people’s expectations. There is no reason he should be working on Fire and Blood, Dunk & Egg, Nightflyers, or anything else until he finishes his original series that was started 23 YEARS AGO.

Martin is 70, and it’s fair to wonder if at his current pace he will actually ever finish the series that made him famous. At the earliest, it will be several years before the books are done
